St. Patrick's Day Festival

The Parade

The St. Patrick’s Festival Parade is the beating heart of our celebrations, bringing the streets of Killarney to life with colour, music and creativity. Local community groups, performers and visiting troupes come together to create a joyful procession inspired by our 2026 theme, Echoes of Killarney Future. From imaginative floats and lively performances to moments of surprise and shared laughter, the parade reflects the spirit of contemporary Killarney while honouring the traditions that shape us. Whether you are taking part or watching from the sidelines, it is a celebration that invites everyone to feel connected, inspired and part of something special.

Greening

Killarney truly goes green for the St Patrick’s Festival. From 10 to 26 March, buildings across the town and surrounding area are illuminated in vibrant green.

Landmarks such as St Mary’s Cathedral, the Franciscan Friary, St Mary’s Church of Ireland, Methodist Church, Ross Castle and Killarney Courthouse join hotels, shops, restaurants and pubs in the celebration. Each year, a public vote on Facebook selects Killarney’s Best Greened Building.

Shop windows are decorated, locals and visitors dress in shades from emerald to lime, and colourful hats and costumes add to the fun. The St Patrick’s Day parade has been a tradition for generations, with adults who once took part now watching their children and grandchildren join in.

It is a day of smiles, friendship and a warm Céad Míle Fáilte – one hundred thousand welcomes – for all. Beyond its natural beauty, Killarney is beloved for its lively culture, rich history, excellent amenities and the friendliness of its people.
